Ananda College, Colombo, and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, were declared joint champions after the second semi-final and the final were washed out due to rain in the 23rd Col Henry Steel Olcott Memorial Cricket Tournament, played at the Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala, yesterday.
Players from eight leading Buddhist schools in Sri Lanka, namely Ananda, Dharmaraja, Maliyadeva, Mahinda, Nalanda, Dharmasoka, Dharmapala, and Rahula, participated in this six-a-side tournament.
In the first semi-final, Ananda defeated Dharmapala easily by 5 wickets after bowling them out for just 15 in 4 overs.
In the second semi-final, Maliyadeva made 53/1 in 5 overs, with Vinuka Galapaththi smashing an unbeaten 35. Nalanda were 13 without loss after 2.1 overs when rain halted play.
Manupa Manmitha of Nalanda College was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
