Sri Lanka Customs (SLC) seized seven kilos of cannabis hidden in 20 tins, estimated to be worth over Rs. 42.5 million.
Based on intelligence gathered by officers attached to the Revenue Task Force (RTF), a container shipped from Canada was detained and examined on December 4 by RTF officers.
During the examination, it was observed that three packages consigned to an address in Vavuniya contained 20 tins of cannabis, among other goods. It was also noted that one package addressed to a person in Kalutara South contained eight packets of cannabis, among other goods.
The cannabis sent to the address in Vavuniya weighed five kilos, with an estimated street value of Rs. 31,994,000. Additionally, the package sent to the address in Kalutara South weighed 1.7 kilos, with an estimated street value of Rs. 10,530,000.
Following the examination, the seized goods were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for legal action.
