Rain once again disrupted the Lanka T10 Super League matches on the second day at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Only 3.3 overs were bowled in the first match between Kandy Bolts and Nuwara Eliya Kings, while the second game between Galle Marvels and Hambantota Bangla Tigers was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In the first game, Kandy Bolts were invited to bat. Pathum Nissanka started aggressively, scoring an unbeaten 26 off 11 balls with 5 fours, while Chandrapaul Hemraj added 7 runs before being dismissed by Benny Howell. Rain stopped play soon after, and the match was eventually abandoned, with both teams sharing one point each.
On the first day, Galle Marvels defeated Kandy Bolts by 7 wickets to earn 2 points. With their no-result game yesterday, Galle moved to the top of the table with 3 points.
In that match, Galle Marvels chased a target of 101 with Andre Fletcher scoring 41 off 21 balls (3 fours), while Shakib Al Hasan made 20 off 8 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes, guiding the team to seal the win in 7.4 overs.
Earlier, Kandy Bolts’ Dinesh Chandimal played a superb knock of 66 off 25 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes, but it was in vain as Galle Marvels recorded an easy win with 2.2 overs to spare.
Galle Marvels’ left-arm paceman Binura Fernando bowled impressively with figures of 3 for 9 in his two-over spell and was named Player of the Match.
Galle Marvels have already played 2 matches, with one resulting in no result, and now lead the points table with 3 points. Jaffna Titans, who played their first match against Hambantota Bangla Tigers, gained 2 points. Nuwara Eliya Kings, unable to complete either of their games due to rain, also have 2 points.
Dinesh Chandimal’s 25-ball 66 remains the highest individual total so far, while young off-spinner Treveen Mathew of Jaffna Titans recorded the best bowling figures of 4 for 10.
Today (13), three more matches are scheduled to be played at Pallekele.
The first game will see Nuwara Eliya Kings play Galle Marvels at 4:00 pm. Kandy Bolts will face Jaffna Titans at 6:15 pm, followed by Colombo Jaguars against Hambantota Bangla Tigers at 8:30 pm.
