Thirty years’ RI for suspect who forced differently abled teen into prostitution

An accused who was found guilty of luring a mentally challenged 14-year-old girl and forcing her into prostitution was yesterday sentenced to 30 years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to the sentence, the accused was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs. 450,000 to the victim and fined Rs. 45,000.

Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe observed that the prosecution was able to prove the allegations against the accused beyond reasonable doubt. The 37-year-old accused was convicted on three separate charges filed against him and sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for each charge by the Colombo High Court. The accused was also ordered to serve the sentences concurrently.
