The Excise Department secured a record revenue of over Rs.200 billion by November 30, the first time in its 120-year history that revenue exceeded this amount. Excise Department’s projected revenue for 2024 was Rs. 232 billion.
According to Excise Department this impressive achievement is attributed to several key factors including, increasing excise duties on alcohol production, introduction of a new security stamp programme, continuing special operations by department officials, including raids on illegal alcohol production and crackdowns on counterfeit security stamps, effectively reduced the circulation of counterfeit alcohol and increased consumption of Government-approved alcohol.
Despite the economic challenges posed by the recent pandemic and national economic downturns, the department’s strategic initiatives proved to be highly effective. This milestone is particularly noteworthy given the current scenario, where the Excise Department efficiently manages with limited human resources. This achievement underscores the department’s dedication and resilience in overcoming obstacles and achieving its financial goals.
