Final decision on electricity tariff revision on January 17

Public consultations to begin from December 17:

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) declared that the final decision on the electricity tariff revision proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be taken on January 17, 2025.

Accordingly, the PUCSL said that consulting the public to obtain their views on the electricity tariff revision proposal submitted by the CEB for the six month period from January to June 2025 will start from December 17.

In this public consultation, the parties including the general public will have the opportunity to present their views and suggestions in writing and orally regarding the electricity tariff revision proposal presented by the CEB and the draft counter proposal prepared after the review by the regular staff of the PUCSL.

This public consultation is conducted in accordance with Section 17 (b) of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No. 35 of 2002, Section 30 of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009 and the Electricity Tariff System (Price Formula).

The Ceylon Electricity Board has proposed to implement the existing electricity tariff unchanged for the first six months of 2025.

Public comments and suggestions can be submitted regarding the CEB proposal as well as the recommendations of the regular staff of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.

After taking into consideration the opinions and suggestions presented during the public consultation, the final decision on the electricity charges that will be effective for the first six months of 2025 will be announced on January 17, 2025.
