Agricultural Services Commissioner General Rohana Rajapaksa said that 113,956 hectares of paddy fields have been destroyed due to the flood caused by the recent adverse weather conditions.
He said this has been confirmed according to reports received yesterday (9) afternoon and 120,132 farmers have been affected.
According to Agricultural Services Commissioner General 48,841.8 hectares of paddy land has been completely destroyed and 48,852 farmers have been affected. Out of this, the highest damage is reported from Batticaloa district and the extent is 13,235 hectares.
Agricultural Services Commissioner General Rohana Rajapaksa emphasised that these information reports will be submitted to the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board to prepare compensation for the farmers.
