Sri Lankan appointed to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Evaluation Body

Dr. B. D. Nandadeva of Sri Lanka has been chosen as an expert for the esteemed Evaluation Body of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). His selection was announced during the 19th Session of the ICH Committee held in Asunción, Paraguay.

According to a statement from the Sri Lankan Embassy in France, Dr. Nandadeva, an eminent academic with over four decades of experience in cultural heritage, will hold the position for a term of up to four years. He possesses in-depth expertise in the ICH Intergovernmental Committee’s operations and the nomination process for heritage inscriptions.

The Evaluation Body consists of 12 members, including six experts nominated by states and six representatives from accredited NGOs, ensuring balanced geographic and sectoral representation. This group plays a crucial role in assessing nominations and safeguarding global intangible cultural heritage.
