Although some have claimed that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has been divided into three factions, there is no such situation; the SLFP is just one group.
Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister and Senior Vice President of SLFP, Mahinda Amaraweera, said that the group chaired by Nimal Siripala de Silva, is the only group.
The Minister made these comments while addressing the media at his residence in Agunakolapalassa last morning (29).
Maithripala Sirisena is not in any position in the SLFP. The former chairman voluntarily left the party. If he likes, he can speak and work as a patron of the party. There is no point in Maithripala Sirisena talking about the SLFP now.
There is only one group within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. That is the team led by Nimal Siripala de Silva. That’s our team. Other groups are not in this party.
It has been confirmed by many court decisions. No one has gone to court against that. The party headquarters is also under us. We are doing all the work.
Our party’s politburo and central committee will also meet on Wednesday 31st about how our party will work in the next presidential election. At that point, we as a party decide who we will support.
We do not make decisions as individuals but as a party.
Currently there are no two or three factions in this party. There is only our group. The Minister emphasised.
