An ex-court clerk has been arrested by police for obtaining Rs.3.5 million from a man for preparing a fraudulent document with the forged signature of the Magistrate stating that the defendant has been acquitted of all charges related to a case pending in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
The person has earlier served a prison term for similar offences while working as an office assistant at the Welisara Court, Police said.
The suspect had introduced himself as an official at the Attorney General’s Department and had prepared this fraudulent case report in order to remove the overseas travel ban imposed against a person residing in the Wennappuwa area. However, as the suspect had found out that the travel ban had not been lifted he had met the Negombo Magistrate’s Court Registrar and found out that the case report was forged and the Magistrate’s signature was also forged.
The suspect had been arrested yesterday and he will be produced in Court.
