The Sri Lankan national champion 17 year old Ranithma Liyanage entered the women’s single quarter final at St Denis Reunion Open 2024 Badminton International series held at Reunion Island following a dominant straight-set win over Emmanuelle Aamette from host country in the pre quarter finals .
Ranithma who is 183 world ranking shuttler has shown her potential to beat Aamette in two straight sets 21-4, 21-6 comfortably. Earlier at the second round Ranithma securing a comprehensive victory with scores of 21-3, 21-5 in just 14 minutes to beat Lalicia Resolution from Madagascar .
The promising shuttler from Christ Church Baddegama was scheduled to play third seed Shuttler from India Tasnim Mir int the quarter final .
Dumindu makes hard fought two setter game
Meanwhile Sri Lankan Dumindu Abeywickrama made two tough setter game against seventh seed Tharun Mannepalli but Indian shuttler finally won the game which was a very close battle. The first set both players made very hard fight ending 25-23 while second set once again both shuttlers had a close battle finally Indian Tharun won 21-19 to enter pre quarter finals .
The 2024 St Denis Reunion Open, part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar and features the top 50 ranked players worldwide, offers a total prize money of $25,000.
After this tournament both Ranithma and Dumindu will leave Mauritius to take part in FELET Mauritius International Badminton International series which will be held from July 11-14 .
