The elephant with only one tusk, popularly known as “Galgamuwe Chandi”, has been found dead in the Kaduru Wewa at Ehetuwewa in Kurunegala yesterday (05).
The Wildlife officials suspect that Chandi has died from receiving fatal wounds after engaging in a fight with another tusker in the area recently.
Wildlife officials stated that investigations revealed that the front right leg of the tusker has been severely wounded from the fight with the other tusker. The deceased “Galgamuwe Chandi” was aged 50 to 55 years and the post-mortem of the elephant is scheduled to be conducted today (6). The dead tusker has been suffering from various ailments for sometime and has been referred for treatment on many occasions.
