Tharushi Karunaratne the promising middle distance athlete won her second gold yesterday when she was placed first at 800m at Taiwan International Athletic Open Championship yesterday.
Tharushi Karunaratne on her road to Olympic journey came back strongly while she was placed 800m first with 2 minutes 05.74 seconds to grab the gold in grand style. Earlier in two meets Thsrushi was unable to run due to illness but she came back strongly at the Taiwan meet.
The 21-year-old Walala Central athlete Tharushi Karunaratne won 400m gold with a time of 52.48 seconds on previous day completed gold double yesterday with the 800m gold. Meanwhile Sri Lanka’s Nadeeka Dilhani Lekamge was placed second to win silver with a leap of 52.79m in this meet.
The first day Sri Lankan Aruna Dharshana won 400m gold medal with a time of 45.82 seconds while Gayanthika Abeyrathne won silver in 1500 m with a time of 4 minutes 24.66 seconds.
Both Nadeesha Ramanayake and Tharushi Karunaratne competed at 400m but Nadeesha had to be satisfied with fourth place.
