Former President Maithripala Sirisena has been notified to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (25) to be questioned about an alleged statement he made in Kandy regarding the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Former President and Member of Parliament Maithripala Sirisena had allegedly claimed in Kandy that he was “well aware” of the true perpetrators behind the Easter Sunday attacks.

The CID is also slated to report the facts to the Court while producing the audio tapes and video tapes related to the above statement allegedly made by the former President.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles had also ordered Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon to conduct an immediate investigation regarding this statement made by former President Sirisena, on March 22. SJB Member of Parliament Kavinda Jayawardena and several civil society organizations had lodged complaints with the CID on Saturday urging an investigation into the comments made by the former President.
