“A fine team effort during the second T -20 paved the way to victory with openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka giving a good start,” said Angelo Mathews. We had good plan and it worked out for our team and will go all out to make a clean sweep of the series today.

“The Afghans bowled well they had very decent line and length and we were struggling in first 10-15 overs. But our plan was Sadeera to bat until 17th over and I can play with more freedom. First game we were all out in 19 overs and we wanted to make sure to play full quota of 20 overs. We wanted to play positive cricket and one guy can bat long while others play around him and I think Sadeera Samarawickrama did really well and our plan worked out well,” said Mathews.

New set of selectors and new skipper really plan well and everything has gone smoothly and all players did a good job said Angelo who turned in an excellent all round performance to win Player of the Match award.

Selectors and Wanindu Hasaranga the captain make good mind set to all players and we are all in good shape.

Skipper Wanindu came early ahead of three four batsmen and he is our floating batsman and did a good job in both matches. All the players have good confidence and enjoy their cricket.

Dambulla wicket is very good. First ten overs little bit struggle but Sadeera stayed very well and he and myself had a good partnership.

“Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga wanted to get my service as a bowler and from the last Zimbabwe series I had to bowl as opening bowler. I am ready to bowl at any stage while our selectors and skipper chat with me and we have good understanding. All are giving good confidence to me and I always give my hundred percent to the team,” said Mathews.

“We were ready to bowl first. But first game there was a dew factor but second game no dew and we also wanted to bat second to go for the target. first game we did lot of mistakes but second game we did less mistakes and had good confidence. We batted, fielded and bowled very well. We have targets and we knew before the T-20 world cup what are the games in future”.

“Facing paceman Matheesha Pathirana during net practice is biggest challenge to all of us. Most of the batsmen couldn’t see his ball and he has ability to bowl at a speed of 150 kmph consistently and that is a great achievement. When he gets the ball he knew how to bowl and get wickets. Bowling at a speed of 150kmph is more difficult and his action unusual and when he bowl last over to defend 12 runs he can do that most of the matches. He is still 21 years and very important to protect him and get his service,” added Mathews.

“I had a hamstring injury at the first T-20 and couldn’t go to the outfield last few overs that’s why before the second T-20 I worked out with my trainer to regain my fitness,” said Angelo.

“Dambulla wicket is very good . The chief curator Sampath Menaka under the supervision of Godfrey Dabrare the International venue Manager and his staff get all credit for Dambulla wicket”. The third and final T- 20 today Sri Lanka is expected to make few changes as they already won the series. Kamindu Mendis and Nuwan Thushara could be added to the team in place of Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana but it’s not confirmed. Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga wanted to make a clean sweep and main thing is to build up winning mentality while Afghanistan will at least try to win this game.
