Cricket star Mahela Jayawardena learnt his lessons from renowned coach Nelson Mendis who completed his CCC cricket school Academy silver jubilee last week. On this occasion the 86 year old Nelson Mendis was felicitated for his great service.
Mahela Jayawardena was invited to speak on that occasion and he made a very meaningful speech.
I always think cricket has three major parts. Number one is talent number two Is physical fitness and number three is intelligence. The cricketer has to develop all three areas to go forward. Beyond these three areas another thing is value and discipline. When I was an eight year old player I learnt this from coach Nelson Mendis who was like our second father and his lessons were very helpful said Mahela.
To get training sessions we have to maintain good discipline from childhood and there are no short cuts to success. If we do proper training you will improve your skills. Do more training and keep fitness and you can become a successful cricketer, said Mahela.
Even today this lessons is very vital. When you do your fitness training you should do it correctly. If you couldn’t complete your fitness lessons you are not up to standard. Today with modern technology bowlers and batsmen are analysed. In another ten years time we have to think how we reach that level. This is a big challenge, said Jayawardena.
Today young players are not worried about their failures. From a young age they have to realize and correct their mistakes to go forward, said Mahela.
