Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) believes in social democracy and the SJB will follow those principles.
He was speaking during an event in Matara to educate the public about the economic programme of the party.
He further said that the SJB does not believe in a programme of protecting the rich and heaping burden on the poor.
“One cannot build the economy of a country through socialism.
In the countries that claim to be socialism oriented, socialism does not really work. The countries that claim to have a socialist, communist rule are actively implementing capitalism. A social democratic model is the way forward,” he said.
Premadasa further said there are some anomalies in capitalism and the SJB was committed to implementing a social democratic model.
