Sri Lanka’s promising junior golfers, Reshan Algama and K Danushan, took center stage on the opening day of the Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday. In the prestigious Gold Division, Reshan Algama secured the lead, closely followed by K Danushan, both with impressive 71 gross scores.
Jevahn Sathasivam, the reigning Junior Open Champion, displayed his skills and claimed the third position with a solid gross score of 73. Yannik Kumara and Kvahn Tejwani secured the fourth and fifth spots, each scoring 74 in the competitive Gold Division, where young talents under the age of 19 competed in an 18-hole contest.
The Under-15 Silver Division witnessed Varun Fernando taking the lead with a gross score of 75, while T Deshan secured the second position with a score of 77. Keshav Algama, Adithya Weerasinghe, and Kaweesha Sandaruwan rounded out the top five with identical scores of 79. Keya Abhayaratne emerged as the top female player in this category, posting a gross score of 105.
In the Bronze Division for the Under-13 age category, Shenal Nimsith dominated the Boys Yellow Markers with an impressive top score of 58 in the 14-hole play. Lavindu Premarathne and Lithum Silva secured the second and third positions with scores of 62 and 66, respectively. Udeera Bandara of Anuradhapura Gold Academy claimed the fourth spot with a score of 70, competing against 11 players, including two females. Nimasha Dahamdi led the girls with a score of 85 in the Yellow Markers.
The Copper Division’s Under-10 Blue Markers 9-hole play saw Revaan Amarasinghe taking the lead with an impressive gross score of 32. Jaidon Herath, Jaeden Sathasivam, and Abiman Abeywardhane of Anuradhapura secured the third and fourth positions with identical scores of 42. Vihara Herath and Hesandi Gayansa Meepawala topped the Girls Blue Markers with scores of 49 and 50, claiming the overall 6th and 7th positions in the 13-member division.
As the tournament enters its final day at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, the excitement continues, teeing off at 8 AM today.
