Sri Lankan tourism started the year with a bang attracting 25,619 arrivals in just four days. (January 1 to 4) During 2023 January, Sri Lanka had a total of January 102,545 for the month and this figure is expected to be overrun this month.
After a long lapse, the Russian Federation arrivals which were 5,060 with a share of 20% became number one beating India’s 3,333 (13%) while Germany (2,109), the United Kingdom and Australia 1,072 remained as third, fourth and fifth best destinations for Sri Lanka. China was in sixth place. (940)
The lack of ‘seats’ is a major concern to attract more Australian arrivals who are looking at touring the Asian region. “The only direct flights are operated by Sri Lankan but more than 70% of it is being filled by ‘feeder Indian traffic’ bound to Austria via Indian destinations.”
