HFC, St. Joseph Vaz and St. Thomas’ Matale emerge Hockey Cup Champs

Holy Family Convent (HFC) Wennappuwa emerged girls Cup Champions while St Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa and St Thomas Matale won boys’ joint Cup championship at the All Island schools under 18 Hockey Championship played at Albert F. Pieris Stadium Wennapuwa over the weekend.

St Joseph Vaz and St Thomas Matale met in the boys Cup final but the game ended in a nil all draw and both teams were declared joint champions.

The girls Cup final between Holy Family Balika and Sri Sangamittha Balika Matale was a tough battle but Holy Family Balika finally won 1-0.

Meanwhile Maris Stella Negombo and Zahira Matale emerged joint champions in the Plate final and both teams did not score a single goal while Christ Church Matale and Vidyartha Kandy were declared as joint Bowl Champions. St Benedict’s Kotahena and Kingswood Kandy emerged joint champions of the Shield competition.

Seethadevi Balika Kandy and Janadhipathi Balika Nawala won joint Plate Championship at the girls competition. Musaeus Colombo defeated Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo 1-0 to win the Bowl Championship. At the Shield final Ovilikanda Maha Vidyalaya, Matale beat Southland College, Galle 1-0.

D.S Senanayake College Colombo defeated St Sylvesters Kandy 2-1 to clinch the boys ‘B’ division title while Tenna Maha Vidyalaya, Matale and Zahira College Colombo declared Joint champions at the consolation event.

Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association conducted this schools under 18 tournament while 24 boys teams and 21 girls teams participated in this three-day event. In addition, this meet will be a talent search for the schools under 18 National pool said Secretary of the Schools Hockey Federation Anuruddha Herath Bandara.
