Sri Lanka women’s cricket skipper Chamari Athapaththu has been picked as the Player of the Tournament at the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL)in Australia . Now representing the Sydney Thunders, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Attapattu put on a stellar performance that included 17 sixes, and has been crowned the player of the tournament
Chamari Athapaththu continued her excellent performance in this WBBL, scoring 511 runs at an average of 42.58 and picking 9 wickets In addition she was the first Sri Lankan women’s cricketer to complete thousand runs in BPL series .
Actually I am very happy to take on this player of the series award while highly satisfied with my personal performances of this WBPL . In addition the specific seating zone WAS named “Chamari Bay,” with an aim to celebrating the Sri Lanka skipper’s cricketing prowess and she is the first Sri Lankan player to get this honour . The dashing left hand opener bat Athapaththu, who has been in outstanding form for Sri Lanka throughout 2023, was picked as a replacement player for the Sydney Thunders. Chamari hails from Ibbagamuwa at Kurunegala district came to Colombo and her performances paved the way to enter the National team .
Having been picked by the Sydney Thunders for this Weber WBBL season, Athapaththu joined their ranks as a fourth overseas player.
Chamari Athapaththu first played in the WBBL in 2017 with Melbourne Renegades before switching allegiances in WBBL|7 to Perth Scorchers.
Chamari is expected to take part in the New Zealand premier league after this WBBL.
