Sri Lanka’s cricketing legend, Aravinda de Silva, is set to be inducted into the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Hall of Fame in a prestigious ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, in Mumbai.

De Silva’s impending induction comes as a recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, placing him alongside other Sri Lankan cricketing greats who have received this esteemed honour in the past, including Muttiah Muralitharan (2017), Kumar Sangakkara (2021), and Mahela Jayawardene (2021). Having played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s historic 1996 World Cup victory, his remarkable 19-year career is marked by exceptional achievements, cementing his status as one of the most revered cricketers in Sri Lankan history. In the final against Australia, he took the wickets of Taylor, Ponting, and Healy, secured two catches, and made an unbeaten 107* (124) after coming in at 23/2. Aravinda earned the title of Player of the Final for his all-round performance.

Boasting a record of 401 appearances for Sri Lanka in both Test and ODI formats, he amassed an impressive tally of 6361 runs in 93 Tests and 9284 runs in 308 ODIs.
