Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said sugar must be sold only at the controlled price and the Consumer Service Authority should find those selling sugar beyond the price stipulated, apprehend them and take legal action against them.
The State Minister stated this at the time when he was answering a question raised by journalists at the conclusion of a programme that was held in Ruwanwella yesterday (7).
Siyambalapitiya further pointed out that although the special commodity tax was imposed on sugar according to the state revenue requirement, a maximum retail price was set for sugar in order to prevent the increase in the price of sugar stocks available for selling in the country.
State Minister Siyambalapitiya also emphasized that unlike previously that this time the same maximum retail price will apply to packaged sugar, and no one will be allowed to make undue profit from sugar sales.
