It has been revealed in the preliminary investigations that State Minister Diana Gamage, SJB MP Sujith Sanjaya Perera and SJB MP Rohana Bandara Dissanayake, acted in a way that harmed the dignity of Parliament on October 20.
The committee appointed to investigate the matter met yesterday under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ajith Rajapakse.
It has been decided to hold the last meeting on November 9 to further investigate the incident between these three parties.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Speaker Rajapakse said that the final report prepared by the committee will be submitted to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena after conclusion of the investigations.
Deputy Speaker Rajapakse said that the investigation committee has focused on several issues such as scolding, accusing each other, pushing and videotaping the clash in the Parliament complex and the main objective of this committee is to take necessary steps to protect the dignity of Parliament and the dignity of the Members of Parliament.
This committee met for the second time yesterday.
The State Minister and the two SJB MPs involved in the incident have been summoned separately and their evidence has been recorded. State Minister Piyal Nishantha was supposed to attend the committee investigation as an eyewitness to the incident, but he did not participate due to unavoidable reasons.
Accordingly, State Minister Piyal Nishantha is scheduled to participate in the committee meeting on November 9. It was also decided to appoint two women MPs to this committee. Accordingly, State Minister Seetha Arambepola and MP Thalatha Athukorala will be appointed to the committee on this day.
