Ladies’ College made a big splash in the 18th annual Water Polo Encounter for the Mrs. MN Edusuriya Trophy, competing against rival Visakha Vidyalaya at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool last Friday.

In a thrilling match, the Ladies’ College senior team defeated last year’s champions, Visakha Vidyalaya, with a score of 14-6 in this year’s tournament. This victory marked the 18th occasion of the tournament, held annually.

This win was crucial for Ladies’ College, marking their sixth overall championship victory in the history of the competition. In the tally, Visakha Vidyalaya led by 11-6 after 18 editions, with one drawn match. The tournaments in 2020 and 2021 were not held due to the Covid pandemic.

Visakha Vidyalaya’s junior Water Polo Team managed to secure a win against the Ladies’ College Under-15 team, claiming victory with a score of 23-13. Consequently, they were awarded the Gunawardena Challenge Trophy.

The chief guest, Romali Tudawe, an alumna of Visakha Vidyalaya, presented the main awards to the winners and special awards at the event, adding a touch of prestige to the occasion.
