A senior police officer said that investigations reveal that the shooting at a person who was travelling on a motorcycle on the Ambalangoda–Meetiyagoda road yesterday by two people who too were on a motorcycle was carried out on an order by an underworld leader named ‘Karandeniya Sudda’ who is currently in Dubai.
The officer said that the underworld criminal engaged in drug trafficking had allegedly given a contract to his associates, from Dubai, to kill the man over a long-standing dispute. The target of the gunmen was a 47-year-old resident of the Ambalangoda Paniyana area. The police say that he was admitted to Balapitiya Hospital after being shot in the leg and hand. Police investigations are ongoing.
