Five persons including the OIC Tangalle Excise Office along with a soldier of Army Intelligence unit who abducted a trader residing in Walasmulla, Rajapuragoda
demanding Rs. 1 million by force have been arrested. Excise officials who searched the businessman’s house recently found a stock of beedi leaves worth Rs.1.8 million. Later on, it was revealed that the licence he had to keep the beedi leaves with him had expired in June.
It has been revealed during investigations that the Excise officers demanded Rs. 1.4 million from the businessman to settle the issue, but because the businessman refused it, they abducted the businessman in a three-wheeler and demanded Rs. 1 million.
