All school textbooks ready when 2024 first term begins – Minister

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that school textbooks will be handed over to students before the first school term of 2024 begins.

The distribution of school textbooks related to 2024 from the main warehouse in Homagama Pitipana belonging to the Education Publication Department to the regional centers was commenced on Friday.

The Minister said that he rejects the accusations and false propaganda made by various people saying that only a limited number of students will be given uniforms. He said that in 2024, the necessary arrangements have been made to provide sufficient school uniforms and meals at the right time. It was also mentioned that all syllabi will be covered and all studies that were missed during the last Covid season will be completed.

Compared to the previous year, the minister said that this time, it has been possible to print the textbooks at a lower cost and on time, thereby saving the Government Rs.4,000 million. The minister stated that the State Printing Corporation has now reached a level of profit earning and in future, all school textbooks as well as other government documents will be given to the institution for printing and work will be done to further increase its viability and standard.

It was said that the support and dedication of all these institutions and staffs is an essential factor in making the transformative change in education a reality in the school system.
