Police arrested three suspects in connection with an incident of assaulting and injuring a doctor at Wattegama Hospital. After being produced him before Theldeniya Magistrate Devika D. Jayawardena, they have been remanded until October 2.
Janith Maduranga Jayathilaka of Yatawara, Dhanushka Rukshan Ariyaratne of Wattegama and Jayatissa of Henegedara were remanded.
Police say that another person suspected to be involved in the attack is being treated at Matale Hospital currently. The three people who were arrested on suspicion, along with another group, came on Thursday night (21) to visit a patient who was undergoing treatment at the Wattegama Hospital.
A minor employee of the hospital informed them that they could not enter the ward at that time. A doctor named Harindra Senal Wijeratne, who was on night duty, attempted to mediate and settle the clash. When they were told to go out without disturbing the hospital, they behaved violently and attacked the doctor’s face and chest, Police said.
