Two suspects were provided transportation in cab belonging to Army Major

The Colombo Crime Division revealed that the two persons who came to shoot the businessman killed in Borella, a suspect in the murder of Lt. Col. Tuan Mutaliph, was provided transportation in a cab belonging to an Army Major. Accordingly, the Police have taken into custody a cab belonging to an Army Major, residing in Polonnaruwa, who is attached to Ambepussa Army Camp and arrested four persons who are said to have aided and abetted the murder.

On the 20th of this month, a person named I. Vidanaarachchilage Sanjeeva (53), a resident of Kelaniya was killed in a shooting at Borella Leslie Ranagala Mawatha.

The Police say that two unknown people who came on a motorbike shot at the businessman.

After an investigation, the registration number of the cab used to transport the shooters was identified and taken into police custody

It was revealed that the shooters were brought to Borella in this cab to commit the crime.

“After that, the two shooters had come to Leslie Ranagala Mawatha on a motorbike along Baseline Road,” Police say, from the CCTV footage.

During the investigation, it has been revealed that the owner of the cab, the Army Major, had given it to a vehicle rental company in Colombo 4 for a period of three months on the 19th of March.

Then the cab was given to a person in the Matara Walgama area on rental basis and the Police said that the cab was mortgaged by that person to a businessman who runs an agency in Maradana.

Police say that while the businessman was keeping the cab for his personal use, the person who had pawned the cab to him came and took it near a private bank in Keselwatta area saying that he was going to give it to the army major.

Then on the 20th, after the murder, the cab was parked near a church in the area of Sea Street and handed over to the arrested suspect. Then, on the 22nd, another suspect took the cab on the Kadawatha-Ragama road and informed the registered owner, the army major, on the phone. Police investigations have revealed that the cab had been taken away by him later. The Police are conducting further investigations.
