Sahan Keerthisiri to lead Antonians

St. Anthony’s College Kandy are preparing well for the coming season, and are hard at rugby training, there are over thirty players at training. and are in the Division I Segment “A” Group I. Their first game is on June 14 vs St. Josephs College at Bogambara Stadium, on June 24 vs D.S. Senanayake College at Trinity College grounds at Pallekelle. July 8 vs Royal College in Colombo, July 15 vs Isipathana College in Colombo, July 23 vs Kingswood College at Trinity College grounds at Pallekelle and July 28 vs S. Thomas” College at Bogamabara Stadium.

This time the team leadership has gone to the hands of Sahan Keerthisiri who is sure to give his best as a leader with the backing from the rest of the ruggerites.

This time one of their top products in rugby Lasnatha Wijesuriya has taken over as rugby consultant. He is sure to give a big hand. being one of the finest products of St. Anthony’s who represented Sri Lanka. He captained his club Kandy SC to become triple champs that marked a turning point for rugby in Kandy. This time the head coach is a product of Isipathana College Srinath Sooriyabandara who polished his rugby at Kandy Sports Club, a utility player is sure to build up a good side. Antonians are hard at training under his guidance. Srinath as he is popularly called represented Sri Lanka in the 15-man game between 2009 and2014.

He was also a vital part of the National Sevens Team since 2010 and was appointed as Captain of the team for the 2018 Asia Rugby Sevens Series. He usually plays as Scrum half, but due to his versatility he also played asFly-Half and Full-back. He was a member of the Sri Lankan Sevens team that won the Shield Championship at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Right after school, he joined CR & FC in 2009. He quickly started making a name for himself and soon became the club’s first choice as Scrum Half. In 2013 he signed with Up Country Lions Club along with several high profile domestic rugby players today this club is defunct. Then in 2014 he moved to Navy SC and in 2015 he joined Kandy SC and has been a regular at the club ever since.
