“No one will be allowed to destabilise the country again”

Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday that the so-called struggles in the country will not be allowed to destabilise the country again.

“Even though people have the right to topple the Government, no one has the right to topple the state and if someone tries to do so, it is a terrorist act,” he added.

Minister Ranatunga said this while participating in a discussion with officials of the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation.

“We are receiving various complaints about the way people are treated by the officials when they go to the Ministry and its related institutions. A number of complaints have been received with regard to treating local investors. There is an allegation that officials are not helping local investors. But, whether in Sri Lanka or abroad, the investors are the same. We should help all the investors if it is going to benefit Sri Lanka,” the Minister said.

“Certain things that should not happen are happening in public institutions today. They should be minimized as much as possible. If officials are given a car, salary, and allowances, they should work for everything they receive, because they are spending the people’s money,” Minister Ranatunga said.

“When I took over the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, the first thing I did was solve the problems of the Urban Development Authority. After knowing the information, the relevant officials were changed. We also carried out such a programme in the National Housing Development Authority. Changes have to be made in an organization. Otherwise, we cannot properly run them,” the Minister said.
