The Mawanella Police arrested a Police Constable who went to a liquor outlet in Mawanella and tried to buy liquor by tendering a fake Rs.1000 note.
Police say that the 36-year-old Police officer from Mawanella, Randiwala was suspended from duties due to his conviction for rape in 2011.
The Policeman who is reported to be an alcoholic had gone to the liquor outlet the previous evening and purchased a bottle of alcohol by paying Rs.1000.
On confirming that the Rs.1000 note given by the Police officer was fake, the liquor store employees detained him and informed the Police about the incident.
Accordingly, the Police arrested the suspect and during questioning it was revealed that he was given this note by another person. Investigations are continuing.
