The Panadura South Police said that three persons were arrested for gang-raping a girl after persuading her to get into their lorry saying that they will drop her at her home.
Based on a complaint made to the Police by the woman that on the night of March 3, when she was returning home after working at a shop in Panadura town, she was offered a lift by three men in a lorry offering to drop her at home.
When she got in to the lorry they had taken her to an isolated area at Wadduwa and gang raped her by holding a dagger to her neck.
Investigations are continuing under the supervision of Chief Inspector of Police Upul Priyankara Nawulla and the direction of Chief Inspectors of Police Channa Amarasekera and Wijetunga.
Over 100 tapes of CCTV footage had been inspected and the suspects taken into custody. The Police said that those arrested were from the Panadura, Arukgoda and Egodauyana areas, aged 45, 24 and 23 years.
