Wrong data entry grounds MP Aluthgamage at BIA

Immigration Dept officer interdicted pending inquiry

Immigration Controller Harsha Ilukpitiya yesterday said that the officer who did not act according to the permission given  to parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage to travel abroad will be interdicted and an investigation into him will be conducted today (13).

The Immigration Controller said that this step will be taken on the instructions of the Public Security Minister Tiran Alles. He said that disciplinary action will be taken against the officer who was responsible for feeding inaccurate data to the computer system following an inquiry.

Ilukpitiya said that he learned that former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who came to travel abroad on March 11, was sent back due to inaccurate data entered into the computer system and his travel had been lifted from March 3 to 17.

He said that an order issued to another person by the Agalawatta court had mistakenly mentioned the name of MP Aluthgamage and said that the officer who entered inaccurate data into the system will be interdicted and an investigation will be conducted into the incident, Illukpitiya added that further steps will be taken after receiving the related report.

Aluthgamage had arrived at the BIA on March 11 to travel to Thailand, and due to being notified that the system shows a travel ban imposed in relation to a case pending against him in court, he was not allowed to fly, so he was refused travel and sent back home.
