Zoo to hold ‘Week of Affection’ from today

The National Zoological Gardens Department has made arrangements to start a ‘Week of Affection’ for Animals from today (11) with the aim of further providing love and kindness to the animals in the Dehiwala Zoo.

The joy of receiving a male partner for the female jaguar ‘Leyar’ in Dehiwala Zoo, from the Netherlands will be celebrated during this week.Visitors will also have the opportunity to name the jaguar calf newly brought into the Dehiwala Zoo.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, several other programmes have also been scheduled targeting lovers during this week, the Zoological Garden said.

The National Zoological Gardens Department has also made arrangements to issue a special membership card to frequent visitors to the Dehiwala Zoo while allowing the visitors to contribute to the foster parents for animals programme as well during this week. In addition to this, Dehiwala Zoo has organized many other programmes such as providing opportunities to feed the animals, providing opportunities to take photos with the animals at special places and holding various competitions for the spectators.
