Fourth year player, present captain of the first eleven cricket team 2022/23, all rounder, right hand top order bat and wicket keeper of the side Kukule Kankanamage Senura Shanikya Deshapriya has brought honour and glory to his Alma Mater Thurstan College Colombo with his deeds in the field of cricket.His deputy is Vihas Devmika.
Senura who hails from Keenadeniya Ambepussa was born on January 14, 2005 and admittd to Rathnalankara Maha Vidyalaya Alawwa in 2010. He passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam with flying colours and admitted to Thurstan College Colombo in 2015. As he showed some keenness in cricket his parents Bandu Deshapriya and Pathmangani Weerasuriya handed over their son to the coach of Thurstan College Cricket Academy Mr. Mihiran. He was selected to the under 13 Division Two team in 2016 and passed the 100 mark with a fifty and in his second year he collected 251 runs with two fifties and in his third year he passed the 300 mark with a century against Trinity College Kandy with another three fifties. In the mean time he was selected to the Sri Lanka Schools under 14 team to play against the visiting Mumbai Cricket Academy from India. His coaches were Jayantha Muniweera, Feilix Dias and Nalida Dissanayake. He scored a brilliant 134 runs against Maliyadewa College in their traditional game.
Due to Corona Virus there was no under 17 tournament and in 2022 he scored 122 urns in five matches with a 50, He was selected for the first eleven cricket team in 2019 and played in one match and in his second year there was no cricket due to Corona and in 2021 played in five matches which included two one day games he scored 80 runs. Then in the following year he played in seven matches and got 109 runs including the big match against their arch rivals Isipathana Vidyalaya.
This year Thurstanites have played six limited over matches and has qualified for the quarter finals. Senura's present coach is Heshan Thilakarathne and MIC is Malaka Jayasinghe and he is well supported by Manjula Wijeratne the Manager of Colombo Premier Cricket Foundation of Ambepussa.
