US$ 422 Mn earned through electronic exports in 2022

Dhammika Samarawickrama, Member of the Industry Commission and Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Industry (Electronics and Electrical) said that Sri Lankan exporters have brought in US$ 422 million to Sri Lanka last year by sending electronic and electrical equipment abroad amid many economic challenges at home and abroad.

The chairman explained that the export income of this sector was close to 200 million dollars in 2021 and said they hope to earn an export income of 650 million dollars in 2023.

Dhammika Samarawickrama recalled that Industry Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara and Additional Secretary Chaminda Pathiraja and ministry officials and the public sector are providing immense guidance to empower the 70 exporters of this sector who send electronic and electrical equipment abroad and bring dollars to this country.

Electrical equipment manufactured in this country are exported to a number of countries

including European regional countries, Middle East and Maldives, and the government has already provided the strategic plan and programme to reach 1 billion dollars (US$ 1000 million) export revenue in this sector by 2025.
