Ready to forego US citizenship for politics - Basil

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organizer, former Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that if his US citizenship or anything else becomes an obstacle to his future political activities, he was ready to get rid of them.

He said the people of the country should decide whether he succeeded or failed.

He said that he has made some efforts in earlier to manage the economy of the country and alleviate people’s difficulties and the government decided to work with the International Monetary Fund at the first opportunity. Rajapaksa stated this in a special statement to the media.

He said that a group of people engaged in a struggle demanding a system change, but they should hear from the people who demanded and did the struggle what kind of system change they expected.

Rajapaksa pointed out that he has a great responsibility at this time, in the backdrop of a President voted for office by 6.9 million being removed and a parliamentarian killed and violence unleashed against a large number of government politicians.

He stated that their intention was to completely sideline the SLPP.

He stated that in such a situation, the SLPP has submitted nominations for local government election and that he is not ready to abandon the people of Pohottuwa who fearlessly came forward in such a situation.
