The 24-year-old left hand opener Harshitha Samarawickrama made an unbeaten 56 in 46 balls with 7 fours while two spinners Inoka Ranaweera and Oshadie Ranasinghe took three wickets each as Sri Lanka women's team recorded thrilling two runs win over Ireland in the ICC women's T -20 Word Cup warm up game played at Stellenbosch, South Africa yesterday. Sri Lanka lases scored 149 for 5 wickets in 20 overs while Ireland were managed to get 147 all out with one ball to spare.
The openers Harshitha and skipper Chamari Atapattu made 46 runs solid platform to build up the innings after put into bat first while Atapattu was first to out scoring 27 in 23 balls with six fours.Young Vishmi Gunarathne also made useful 36 in 34 balls with four fours as number three batter. The wicket keeper Anushka Sanjeewani also hit an unbeaten 17 in 13 balls with two fours. Laura Delani was the most successful Irish bowler taking three for 20.
Ireland chasing a target of 150 runs and opener Gaby Lewis (38) and skipper Laura Delani (21) and Arlene Kelly (30) were the only successful batters but that was not enough to reach the target.
Experienced Lankan two spinners leg spinner Inoka Ranaweera and off spinner Oshadie Ranasinghe were the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets each.
Sri Lanka women's will meet West Indies women's in the second warm up game tomorrow.
