Treasure hunter gets arrested at Sri Maha Bodhi

A person who tried to enter Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’s North Wahalkada with a stock of gunpowder was arrested by the Udamaluwa Police yesterday (2) morning.

This person was arrested while carrying about 35 grams of gunpowder and a service string in a bag during a search conducted at around 6.30 yesterday morning.

The suspect has been identified as a 54 year-old resident of Galle.

This suspect brought this gunpowder and service thread to unearth a treasure in the Anuradhapura area. Later, the police who are investigating the matter said that he had come to worship at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi because the place where the treasure is has submerged in water.

The suspect was handed over to the Anuradhapura Police Headquarters by the Udamaluwa Police Division. Further investigations related to the incident are being carried out by the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police and Police Special Task Force officers.
