The first charter flight for the year from Uzbekistan landed on Friday (27) at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) with more than 200 holiday makers. Uzbekistan Airways will operate weekly flights and will continue till the end of March 2023.
Aitken Spence Travels which coordinated with this airline was also instrumental in bringing the first charter last year from this source market that was a new market for Sri Lanka. This year’s charter has been confirmed after a considerable amount of persuasion and convincing despite the many challenges faced in the country and tourism industry. The tourism industry should take a lead and work towards creating a conducive environment for the diverse group of tourists.
