Opener Alex Lees scored a fluent knock of 103 in 97 balls as England Lions smashed 413 for 8 wickets declared in their first innings while Sri Lanka Cricket President XI were 93 for 2 wickets at close of the first day in their three-day warm-up game played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
The England Lions enjoyed the batting paradise of the R. Premadasa Stadium as they won the toss and elected to bat first to get good batting practice before the two Test match series against Sri Lanka A.
The left-hand opener Alex Lees from Durham's sparkling innings came with 12 fours and 2 sixes while Jos Bohannon (58) and Jack Hayes (63*) and Jamie Smith (50) scored half-centuries to build up a challenging total of 413 for 8 wickets. The medium paceman Janith Liyanage was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 47 while Kavindu Pathirathne and Tharindu Ratnayake took two wickets each.
Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI openers Nishan Madushka (56*) hit 11 fours in 56 balls and also added a 44-run opening stand with Lasith Croosepulle who scored 17 in 36 balls with 2 fours but was out when Jack Carson took a catch off the bowling of Liam Patterson. Nimesh Vimukthi went in as night watchman but was bowled by Jack Carson for 17 with 2 fours and six.
Former two England players Graham Swan and Ian Bell were at this match as England Lions Bowling and Batting coaches.
