Japan assures continued assistance for completion of BIA’s Terminal 2

Japanese Ambassador Hideaki Mizukoshi and Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JAICA) Director for Sri Lanka Akimitsu Okubo assured that the construction of Terminal 2 of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) would commence as soon as the IMF restructuring process was over.

They gave this assurance at a special discussion with Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, at the Ministry on Monday. 

The Minister expressed his gratitude to Japan for its assistance for the success of Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring programme. 

The Minister said that the expectation of the Government is to see Terminal 2 of the BIA completed as a successful Japanese project and no assistance of another party would be sought.  

A special delegation from the Japanese Embassy, a group of representatives from JAICA, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Ministry Secretary K.D.S. Ruwanchandra and Additional Secretary (Development) Nayana Somarathna also attended the discussion.
