Geetha in Iran to attend confab on women

Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe left for Iran to participate in the first International Congress of Influential Women to be held in Tehran, Iran.

She is participating in the event at the invitation of Vice President of Women and Family Affairs of the Republic of Iran Ensieh Khazali.

The aim of this conference is to encourage countries to share their knowledge and experience related to the status of women and their families in order to enhance the cultural value and to develop the personalities of women, and to encourage women achievers in their countries.

It hopes to advance the status of women bilaterally, regionally and globally by coming up with innovative plans to attract participation in the implementation of bilateral and multilateral discussions on ambitious topics as well as other initiatives.

The participation of other countries can promote the discourse on justice and peace, expand understanding and interaction. It is also expected to strengthen the actions of women achievers by sharing ideas in determining the role of women in solving global challenges and honouring women achievers in various scientific and cultural fields, the State Minister said.
