Train passengers attacked, one hospitalised

The Moratuwa Police said that a train passenger who sustained serious injuries was admitted to the Panadura Hospital when two persons had attacked three train passengers with sharp weapons near the Moratuwa station in a bid to rob them. Police said one of the suspects, a 21-year-old man was arrested.

Police said that the incident had happened on the Maradana-Panadura train which was approaching Moratuwa at around 5:42 in the morning.

The two suspects had gone into a compartment where only two persons were travelling and had demanded their wallets and mobile phones. When the two passengers refused to comply they had tried to attack them with sharp weapons. The two passengers fearing harm had handed over their wallets and mobile phones to the robbers.

Then the two robbers had gone into a compartment where only one passenger was present. However, when they had tried to rob him he had fought with the robbers.

The man who was injured due to robbers attacking him with sharp weapons has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
