CID to probe 94 OIC’s

Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickramaratne has decided to conduct an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against 94 Police OIC’s who had allegedly collected money despite orders not to collect money to give gifts to senior Police officers.  

Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police is likely to forward a list of those OIC’s to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation today.

This has been mentioned in a meeting held yesterday (16) by the Inspector General of Police with the Provincial Senior DIGs and District DIGs through Zoom technology.

These officers are alleged to have collected money to give food and drinks to the senior Police officers who come to participate in the inspections, to beautify the Police stations, to give money vouchers and gifts to make the senior police officers happy for the New Year and other special events and to collect money to give gifts to the senior police officers when they are transferred.

A report in this regard has been given to the Inspector General of Police by the an Intelligence Unit of the Police. According to the intelligence reports, it is said that the police OIC’s have collected money from officers working under them in various amounts ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 10,000 for the above purpose.
