Interdicted Ethimale OIC to spill the beans on deposed SSP

To provide testimony in camera to Moneragala Court

The OIC of the Ethimale Police Station, IP Sanjaya Dharmadasa, who was arrested during the further investigation by   the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the arrest of Senior Superintendent of Police Sisila Kumara with a consignment of cannabis by the Police Special Task Force, has decided to give a secret testimony before court. The IP was interdicted by the IGP yesterday.

He has stated this before the Monaragala Magistrate Court last Friday (13).

Accordingly, he is scheduled to give his testimony in camera before the Monaragala Magistrate on January18.

Police believe that he will reveal many details about the illegal orders given to him by the then Monaragala SSP Sisila Kumara, as well as his connections with cannabis smugglers, before the magistrate.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sisila Kumara and six persons were arrested by the Police Special Task Force on the 8th of this month with more than 20 kilos of cannabis.

The Inspector General of Police took steps to hand over the investigation of the arrest of the Senior Superintendent of Police with cannabis to the Criminal Investigation Department and accordingly, the Criminal Investigation Department got permission to detain them until the 13th and conduct investigations.

The OIC of Ethimale, who is said to have given the cannabis stock to the SSP was arrested on January 12.

All these seven suspects were presented to the Monaragala Magistrate’s Court last Friday (13). A suspect residing in Moratuwa was released on bail and all other suspects were remanded till 24.
