For the first time in the political history in Sri Lanka, Dambana aboriginal leader Uruvarige Vannila Eththo’s the National Democratic Front (NDF) has submitted nominations to contest for four Local Government Bodies (LGBs) in the Badulla District.

It was done under the patronage of the Mahiyangana Electorate Organizer of the party Indika Nuwan Kumara yesterday (13) at the District Elections Office at the Badulla District Secretariat.

The deposits were made on behalf of aborigines contesting the 2023 Local Government Elections for the Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha, Soranathota Pradeshiya Sabha, Badulla Municipal Council and the Hali-ela Pradeshiya Sabha.

National Democratic Front Mahiyangana Electorate Organizer Indika Nuwan Kumara said that they have made deposits to contest today.

“Uruwarige Vannila Eththo is providing leadership to the party. We handed over nominations for four Local Government Bodies in Badulla today.

“Nominations will also be handed over for all the Local Government Bodies in the Ampara District by aborigines. Others are asking to contest under our leadership.

“We always voted for the main parties and they deceived us after the elections. That will not happen hereafter. We, too, have rights in this country. Our tribe got together and made this decision. As a result of this decision, the aborigines will contest in all areas where our tribes reside. Hereafter, we will not support the main political parties. We, too, are capable of providing leadership.

“We have 100,000 votes from aborigines from 65 villages in Sri Lanka. Politicians visit us on the Day of the Aborigines only and give fraudulent promises. So, once we are victorious in the elections, we will provide services that were not granted by the Government to the aborigines so far,” he said.
