SLPP MP Sahan Pradeep Vithana yesterday urged the President to conduct an investigation into the secret meeting between outgoing BASL President Saliya Peiris PC and Elections Commission Chairman and its Director General.
He was of the view that a formal investigation should be conducted into the meeting which is said to have taken place unofficially at a time when there appears to be a division within the Commission.
The parliamentarian opined that the Commission should seek the advice of Attorney General only regarding the holding of Local Government Election. Making a statement over a news item on social media and websites Vithana said that seeking advice from a person other than the Attorney General is tantamount to the underestimation of the election process.
